Explore our top tips for a seamless journey!

From arriving at Halifax Stanfield to boarding your flight, we recommend following our top travel tips to help get you on your way and enjoy the journey.

Before You Travel

A little preparation can make your airport experience easier.

Come Prepared
Ensure you have all your required travel documents (and that they haven’t expired) well before your trip.

Airlines have varying size limits for carry-on baggage, so be sure your bag meets your airline’s requirements before travelling.

Visit the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) website to confirm what items are permitted in your carry-on baggage.

Dress for Comfort
Dressing in layers at the airport is practical and comfortable. We recommend wearing reliable footwear and comfortable clothing. If you’re waiting for a connecting flight, take time to explore the terminal and stretch your legs.

Check In Ahead of Time
Save time by checking in online up to 24 hours before your flight through your airline’s website or app. Download or print your boarding pass before leaving home.

If you’re travelling with carry-on baggage only and don’t require assistance, you can proceed directly to security upon arrival.

In-person check-in is also available at your airline’s designated counters.

Arriving Travellers

Information for getting from your flight to your final destination.

Passenger Pick-Up
The Arrivals curb is for on-time passenger pick-up only. Drivers should wait in the free Standby Lot, located by Tim Hortons at 311 Bell Blvd, until their traveller has collected baggage and is ready at the curb.

For those who need extra time, paid hourly parking is available on Level P1 of the parkade. Follow the “Hourly Parking” signs. Maximum vehicle height is 86 inches.

Ground Transportation
Continue your journey using a rental car, rideshare, taxi, shuttle or public transportation.

Departing Travellers

Plan ahead for parking, check-in, security and boarding.

Arrive Early
Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to travel to the airport. Before leaving, check your flight status and local road conditions.

We recommend arriving at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights, especially if you’re checking baggage.

Contact your airline directly for the latest information regarding your flight and check-in requirements.

Passenger Drop-Off
The Departures curb is intended for active passenger drop-off only. Waiting on the curb is not permitted.

If you need additional time, hourly parking is available on Level P1 of the parkade. Follow the “Hourly Parking” signs. Maximum vehicle height is 86 inches.

Streamline Security Screening
Have your identification and travel documents ready before entering the security screening checkpoint.

Travellers who have undergone extensive background checks (including NEXUS members, Global Entry members, military personnel, police officers and air crew) may be eligible to use CATSA’s Verified Traveller program.

Eligible travellers have access to a dedicated screening lane during peak hours (6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.). Outside these hours, front-of-line service is available.

Plan your parking
Choose from the Parkade, Exterior Lot or Park ‘N’ Fly, with complimentary shuttle service to the terminal.

  • Hourly (Less than 24 hours): Level P1 of the Parkade
  • Daily/weekly (More than 24 hours): Parkade, Exterior Lot and Park ‘N’ Fly

Cashless parking
Credit and debit cards are accepted at all pay stations and exit points. Learn more about our parking products.

Curbside Mobility Assistance

Phone locations:

  • Departing passengers: Along the terminal entrance on Bell Boulevard
  • Arriving passengers: Next to the Ground Transportation Booth

Travelling Direct to the United States
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Preclearance is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All passengers must be processed through U.S. Customs by 4:30 p.m., regardless of their scheduled departure time.
