This year marks the 10-year anniversary of Korean Air Cargo’s operations at Halifax Stanfield International Airport (Halifax Stanfield). Since the cargo carrier launched scheduled cargo operations in 2014, the airport has seen consistent year-over-year growth in air cargo volumes. Yesterday, September 4, HIAA welcomed Korean delegates and invited stakeholders to come together in celebration of this milestone.

Korean Air Cargo operates a Boeing 777-200 Freighter with a maximum payload of 103 metric tonnes. The airline serves Halifax Stanfield up to three times weekly, supporting the export of Nova Scotia’s world-class products, particularly live seafood, to key markets in Southeast Asia and beyond through its hub in Incheon, South Korea.

“We are grateful for Korean Air Cargo’s strong commitment to serving Nova Scotia and the entire Atlantic Region,” said Joyce Carter, President & CEO, Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA). “With a global network and reliable service, Korean Air Cargo continues to play a vital role in strengthening Atlantic Canada’s supply chain and supporting the region’s economic growth.”

For over 50 years, Korean Airlines has been renowned for its high-quality services. As a global top-tier air cargo carrier, it currently operates 23 freighters and 136 passenger aircraft flying to 125 cities in 48 countries.

“We are delighted to mark 10 years of our cargo flight service to Halifax, which has been crucial in linking Canada with global markets. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers and further strengthening our cooperation with Halifax International Airport Authority” said JD Eum, head of Korean Air Cargo business division.

Offering a full suite of air cargo logistics, Korean Air Cargo provides advice and helps customers deliver cargo that needs special care worldwide. This applies to the handling and delivery of Nova Scotia live lobster products, known globally for their freshness and quality.

“I’d like to give a heartfelt congratulations to Korean Air Cargo for this significant milestone. Fisheries and Aquaculture are significant and historic industries in Nova Scotia, and with the help of Korean Air Cargo, we’re able to share our sustainable and top-quality seafood products to the world” said Hon. Kent Smith, Minister, Nova Scotia Fisheries and Aquaculture.

HIAA is proud to recognize the significant economic impact that Korean Air Cargo’s presence has had on Halifax and the broader Atlantic Region. The airline’s consistent, quality service has not only bolstered Nova Scotia’s export capabilities but has also strengthened the local economy by connecting our region to key global markets. Since the start of Korean Air Cargo’s scheduled cargo operations in 2014, air cargo volumes have increased by 23 per cent, with a total of 39,450 metric tonnes processed in 2023 – the second-best year on record.

“Congratulations to Korean Air Cargo on 10 years of service to Halifax’s award-winning airport. This is a great partnership that underscores our city and region are open to the world” said Mike Savage, Mayor, Halifax Regional Municipality.

Korean Air Cargo’s partnership with HIAA helps reinforce Halifax Stanfield’s position as a hub for international trade. After a decade of continuous air cargo growth, HIAA looks forward to building on this success, strengthening our supply chains, and supporting the movement of goods to and from our communities.
