Joyce Carter, President & CEO of Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) has been named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 CEO’s by Atlantic Business Magazine.

“The Top 50 CEO awards recognize corporate leadership excellence,” says Hubert Hutton, publisher of Atlantic Business Magazine. “Joyce exemplifies all of the characteristics that the judges look for in a Top 50 CEO: community involvement, corporate growth, managerial acumen and industry leadership. By celebrating her accomplishments, as well as those of the other award winners, we hope to inspire people throughout the region with the depth and breadth of leadership across Atlantic Canada. Ms. Carter began her career at HIAA in 1999, prior to the transfer of operational and managerial control of the airport from Transport Canada in early 2000. Since then, she has been integral in HIAA’s growth and development, becoming Chief Financial Officer in 2006, Chief Strategy Officer in 2008, and President & CEO in 2014.

“As President and CEO, I am gratified to represent the dedicated people of Halifax Stanfield,” says Carter. “They take great pride in their service, meeting the challenges of the region’s largest airport and living their Mission – to create prosperity by connecting Atlantic Canada to the world.”

Ms. Carter holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Saint Mary’s University and is a graduate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia. In 2012, she was awarded the prestigious designation of Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA). She obtained the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) designation in September 2015.

Ms. Carter serves as a member of Dalhousie University’s Board of Governors and is Chair of the Finance, Audit, Investment and Risk Committee, and a member of their Executive Committee. She is a Board Member of the Canadian Airports Council and is Chair of their Large Airports Caucus and Governance Committee. In 2016, she was appointed President of the Board of Directors for the Atlantic Canada Airports Association, and to the Board of Directors of the Airports Council International (ACI) World Governing Board. In addition, she is a Board Member of the Board of Trustees of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Waterfront Development Corporation Ltd.
