At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 28, Air Canada Express Flight 2259, operated by Pal Airlines, experienced an aircraft incident upon arrival in Halifax from St. John’s, NL.

Our 24/7 Emergency Response Services (ERS) team responded immediately to the aircraft and to assist passengers and crew. All passengers and crew on board were safely deplaned and transported off the airfield for medical assessment while our ERS team stabilized and inspected the aircraft.

Our airfield was closed briefly for about 90 minutes on Saturday evening (both runways), but one of our runways was subsequently cleared to resume regular flight operations. Four flights were diverted and there were a handful of cancellations and delays while the airfield was closed.

The aircraft remains on the closed runway at this time, pending an investigation by the Transportation Safety Board, which will have representatives on-site today.

Safety remains our top priority. We will continue to provide airport operational updates as available on our social media channels @hfxstanfield (X, FB, IG).

Further details about the incident should be directed to the airline, Air Canada, at media@aircanada.ca.
