Halifax Stanfield Expects More Air Travellers This Summer
We’ve all been there. Things don’t go according to plan and you wind up starting your trip off stressed, before you even get on the plane. Passenger volume at Halifax Stanfield has been growing steadily since 2013, and this year is no exception. Halifax Stanfield was recently named the Most International, Medium Sized Airport in North America, serving 20 international destinations! With so many places to go to, the airport will be busier than ever over the coming weeks.
To help you have a great airport experience, we’re asking passengers to be prepared:
Check Flight Status Before Leaving Home
There are many factors that can impact airline schedules. Travellers are advised to check with their airline directly or visit www.halifaxstanfield.ca for the latest flight information before leaving for the airport.
Consider Airport Parking Options
There are a variety of parking options available at the airport. Travellers should allow extra time to find the most appropriate parking spot for their needs. Options include the terminal building parkade, the exterior parking lot in front of the terminal building, and the Park’N Fly lot, with complimentary shuttle service to the terminal.
Allow Plenty of Time for Processing
We have a larger number of flights during the summer, averaging more than 8,000 departing passengers per day, which may create longer lines at airline check-in counters and security checkpoints.
Passengers are advised to allow extra time for all processing, including parking, check-in, and security screening. Please allow a minimum of one hour after checking-in at the airport to make your way through security screening and be ready for on-time boarding.
Security & Carry-on
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is responsible for passenger and baggage screening. Passengers can view current CATSA wait times at Halifax Stanfield by downloading their app on iPhone or Android or by clicking here. Please note that the queue fluctuates and can build quickly.

Wave to Well-Wishers in the Observation Deck from Your Gate
Our newly renovated observation deck is now open to the public. Located pre-security, you can now look out onto Gates 16-20 and smile at your loved ones before they board and watch the planes come and go. It’s the perfect place to take in the magic of an airport.
