Service to Philadelphia resumes today, new non-stop services to Boston and Washington launch June 4

Travelling by air between Halifax and the United States just got easier!

Today, June 3, American Airlines resumes its non-stop service to Philadelphia for the first time since 2019, marking the official return of flights from Halifax to the northeastern U.S.

Additionally, starting tomorrow, June 4, American Airlines will begin offering non-stop service to Boston and to Washington, D.C., a new destination for Halifax Stanfield.

“We couldn’t be more excited to give American Airlines a warm welcome as they return to our market with three destinations for the summer season,” said Joyce Carter, President & CEO, Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA). “We are especially excited to have Washington D.C. as a brand-new offering for our airport. After the challenging two years we had at Halifax Stanfield, it is encouraging to see the confidence that American Airlines has in our airport and our community to invest in new air services to new destinations.”

“This summer we are looking forward to our continued expansion in Canada, a country that we have proudly served for more than 80 years,” said Alfredo Jaimes, American’s Country Manager for Canada. “With the resumption of our seasonal service from Halifax to Philadelphia, and new service to Boston and Washington D.C., we will now operate up to 52 daily flights from Canada to the U.S., offering customers our largest schedule since 2019.”

The non-stop flights to Philadelphia, Boston and Washington will allow Atlantic Canadians to easily explore the northeastern U.S., and beyond, while presenting an incredible opportunity to increase inbound tourism and restart business travel to Atlantic Canada as the industry recovers from the pandemic.

“Efficient air access between Halifax and the U.S. will give members of the business communities the chance to expand into local and regional markets,” said Carter. “We look forward to continuing to support economic development for our region as we help Nova Scotia businesses reach their full potential,” said Carter.

Travellers flying to the U.S. will be able to utilize Halifax Stanfield’s U.S. Preclearance Facility, allowing them to quickly start their visit upon arrival in the U.S.

“The U.S. Preclearance facility at Halifax Stanfield is one of the many benefits of flying non-stop from our airport,” said Carter. “As the only airport in Atlantic Canada with this service, we encourage the community to leverage this unique advantage to clear U.S. customs in Halifax so you can continue your journey easily once arriving in the U.S.”
